Workshop Description:

This workshop is geared toward practicing clinicians with no prior training in hypnosis, or those who would like to refresh their skills. It offers comprehensive instruction in the theory and application of hypnosis in a clinical setting through lectures, demonstrations, exercises, and small group practice with supervision and feedback.

The workshop enables participants to obtain a foundation of basic knowledge and skills in clinical hypnosis underlying future more advanced training modules. Topics of instruction include: history, definitions and misconceptions of hypnosis, measures of hypnotizability, hypnotic language and communication, managing resistance, formal induction, deepening, re-alerting techniques, guided imagery, self-hypnosis, treatment planning and applications in medicine, dentistry and mental health, special populations (e.g. children, pain patients), ethics and professional conduct, and integration of hypnosis into practice. After this training, participants can expect to begin using hypnosis with their client population.

Total teaching hours: 23 Supervised small group practice hours: 8 ½

1. Describe and demonstrate three techniques to induce a hypnotic trance.
2. Describe and demonstrate two deepening and re-alerting techniques.
3. Describe at least four clinical conditions in which hypnotic techniques may be used.

Eligibility:
Persons holding a Doctoral Degree in Medicine, Dentistry, Psychology, or Speech-Language Pathology, who are licensed by the state in which they practice.

Persons holding a Master’s Degree in Social Work, in Marriage and Family Therapy, in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, or in Speech-Language Pathology, who are licensed by the state in which they practice.

Nurses holding a Master’s Degree or advanced subspecialty training and certification, who are licensed by the state in which they practice.

Students of these disciplines enrolled in doctoral or master’s level programs (must submit proof of their status with registration).

Psychology Continuing Education Credits:
Margolis Berman Byrne Health Psychology, P.C. is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists and maintains responsibility for this program and its content. This program is offered for 20 CE hours for psychologists. No credit is awarded for partial attendance.

Clinical Social Worker, Professional Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist Continuing Education:
As an APA-approved course, the awarded 23 CE credits for full attendance may be submitted to the PA State Board of Social Workers, Professional Counselors, and Marriage and Family Therapists.  For questions call the State Board at 717-783-1389.

ASCH Credit:
This 23-hour course is approved by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) and as such is applicable toward membership in the Greater Philadelphia Society of Clinical Hypnosis, the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (SCEH), and toward ASCH Certification requirements.

Refund Policy: Registration fees may be refunded, less a $50 administrative fee, for participant cancellations received by Sept.21, 2010. No refunds will be issued for cancellations received after Sept 21, 2010. Written notification and appropriate documentation is required.

Registration fees are not transferable to another workshop.
