Autumn. Beginnings and Endings. Comings and Goings. For those of us who work within the academic calendar and/or have school age children living at home, there always seem to be two beginnings of the year. One in September and the other in January. The season changes, things end, and new prospects spring onto the horizon. Before looking ahead, it is important to acknowledge the lives and recent deaths of those within the professional community as well as the community of man. We shall miss: Drs. Theodore X. Barber, Kenneth H. Gordon, Jr., and Lindley M. Winston. As we proceed with our current academic year of professional meetings, presentations, and workshops, we take our personal and professional experiences with us. And we are richer for having known these gentlemen. Our Vice President and Program Chair, Judith S. Berman, M.A., has developed an exciting array of 2005-2006 academic programs for us to enjoy intellectual stimulation and the camaraderie of professional colleagues. GPSCH members, of course, enjoy these benefits at reduced registration fees. As an ASCH member, you may also enjoy the benefits of high quality presentations provided by ASCH. ASCH’s 48th Annual Scientific Meeting and Workshops on Clinical Hypnosis, Hypnosis in the Mainstream: Currents and Futures, takes place in Orlando, Florida on March 24-28, 2006. If you are not currently an ASCH member, then let me take this opportunity to suggest that you consider ASCH membership for the benefits that will accrue to you. Check out www.asch.net. Additionally, you may be interested in knowing that GPSCH benefits from having GPSCH members who are also ASCH members. Upon request and for a nominal fee, GPSCH will be offering continuing education credits for psychologists attending our monthly meeting presentations. AMA Category 1 CME’s for physicians will be available for our Spring 2006 Workshop. GPSCH is pursuing the offering of CE credits for social workers attending our workshops. Acknowledging the value of our monthly meeting academic presentations and the benefits of GPSCH membership, the Board of Governors has determined that in the future, non-members will be charged a fee for attending monthly meeting presentations. Check out the calendar of events on the GPSCH web site, www.gpsch.com. I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting. – SGG Member NewsCongratulations! to Jan Goldman, Psy.D. who has had a proposal accepted for the November 6-8, 2005 Conference of the International Society for the Study of Dissociation in Toronto, Canada.
