GPSCH HypNewsNewsletter of The Greater Philadelphia Society of Clinical Hypnosis Volume 5 Number 2-3 Spring-Summer 2009 FROM THE PRESIDENT –Adrienne Mendell, M.A. |

| Once upon a time green was just a color created by mixing blue and yellow. The
color evoked a varied array of emotional images both negative and positive. On
the negative side: green with envy, jealousy – the green-eyed
monster, greenhorns, green around the gills. On the positive side: green
is the color of spring, renewal, growth … and money. In the world today, green has become much more than a color. It’s no longer green; it’s GREEN!!! To really understand green, I Googled it. Up came green.org – Sustainable Environmental Eco-Friendly Lifestyle News. Now, that’s green. But, as Kermit the frog sang, “It’s not easy being green.” At home I struggle to be as green as possible. I suspect many of you do as well. From recycling, once a strange idea, now second nature, to watching water and power usage, to trying to buy eco-friendly produced food, to gardening, to walking and cycling instead of driving – and on and on. One of the pleasures of becoming greener is that it not only saves the environment. When done thoughtfully, it also saves money. ( Remember greenbacks? ) The GPSCH Board of Governors has been discussing taking the organization green. To do that, we need your help. ASCH has gone green by eliminating as much paper as possible and we would like to do the same. The simplest way to do this would be to change our monthly flyer and our newsletter, the GPSCH HypNews, from paper to digital. Right now, we are sending the newsletters out electronically via email and on paper via snail mail. Eliminating the paper flyers will help reduce our carbon footprint. Not only will we save the trees that would have gone into making the paper for the flyers, newsletters and envelopes. We save the energy that would have gone into making the paper and we save the gas and carbon emissions from the car trips to the printer and the post office. There is yet another, very important, benefit of going green. Snail mailings are a very expensive way to reach our membership. Eliminating paper, printing and postage will help us reduce costs and keep our dues and program costs as low as possible. In your dues notice this year, you will be given the choice of receiving your monthly meeting notices by email alone or continuing to receive notices by snail mail as well. I hope that most of you choose to go paperless. Remember, if we send you less paper, then you will have less paper to haul out for recycling. Realistically, there may be times when you want to hold the paper in your hands. Simply done – you can easily print out the flyers yourself. We are open to any and all suggestions for how we can grow even greener. Please feel free to email me with any ideas you have. With your help, GPSCH can go greener, and we can all save some greenbacks. Adrienne Mendell, M.A., President |
